Psycho-educational Evaluation Services
What is a psycho-educational evaluation?
A psycho-educational evaluation determines if your child has a learning disability or other issues that adversely impact his or her ability to learn. This type of evaluation assesses your child's cognitive functioning, academic achievement levels, information processing abilities, and general emotional and behavioral issues. These evaluations usually measure emotional/behavioral functioning and their impact on your child's academic performance.
Who does these evaluations?
Psycho-educational evaluations should be performed by a licensed psychologist (PhD or PsyD) who is trained and experienced in these types of specialized evaluations. While some learning specialists can do similar evaluations for learning disabilities, they are not trained to do comprehensive psycho-educational.
How long will an evaluation take?
A comprehensive evaluation can take at least 6 hours. The evaluation can be done in one day, but is often separated into two or more days, depending upon the child.
During our discussion session, parents are provided with a comprehensive report that explains your child's assessment results, diagnosis (as relevant), your child's strengths and weaknesses and a list of accommodations and recommendations.
