Our school-based services staff work cooperatively with district personnel to create a safe learning environment that promotes increased educational performance, improved student behavior controls and enhanced positive parent-school communication.
Our CST members collaborate with principals, teachers, nurses, guidance counselors, and parents to provide intervention, consultation, identification, and evaluation for any student who potentially may have a learning difficulties. Additionally, the members of the team serve as case managers who coordinate the evaluation process. These case managers oversee the implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for all students who are determined to be eligible for special education and/or related services.

DES provides related service providers to help children with disabilities benefit from special education by providing extra help and support in needed areas, such as behavior, speech, gross motor or fine motor functioning.
Special Education Teachers
DES utilizes the expertise of special education teachers and support staff who are highly qualified, having years of experience and who are dedicated to improving the knowledge, skills, and lives of their students.
Our Psychological evaluations are comprehensive assessments that measure cognitive capabilities, adaptive, social and emotional developmental of children for the purpose of determining students' functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement. (Functional behavioral assessments are also available).
Our Educational Evaluations utilize standardized assessments, observations, conferences with instructional staff, and various assessment techniques for the purpose of understanding the students in terms of academic performance and learning characteristics in order to identify and diagnose learning strengths and difficulties which manifest themselves in the school setting.
Our Social Evaluations include a complete social history of the student, assessing developmental history, the status of the student’s social and academic adjustment in terms of school performance, family and personal history, socio-economic and cultural influences and community factors.
Our Speech and Language evaluations assess, analyze and diagnose students’ communication competencies and characteristics to accurately identify disorders of language, articulation, hearing, fluency, voice, feeding/swallowing, and related disabilities.
"Each evaluation of the student shall be conducted in the language or form most likely to yield accurate information on what the child knows and can do academically, developmentally and functionally (NJAC 6A:14-3-4).” Diagnostic & Educational Solutions recognizes the necessity in having students evaluated in their native language and therefore, offers bilingual evaluation services as well.
Speech therapy is concerned with issues surrounding human speech and language communication disorders. Providers assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and oral, feeding and swallowing skills to identify types of communication problems and the best way to treat them.
Applied Behavior Analysis is a scientific-based practice where a Behavior Specialists develops an individualized treatment plan to address goals across communication, social, academic and behavioral domains. Our trained ABA therapists work with children to deliver evidence-based therapy and interventions.
Physical therapy is provided by rehabilitation professionals who promote optimal health and functional independence for individuals. Through the application of scientific principles, physical therapists prevent, identify, assess, correct, or alleviate acute or chronic movement dysfunction, physical disability, or pain.
